The Stalker

Loneliness is an unwanted stalker,
Hidden just out of sight.
I stumble through my day
Aware he is there, somewhere,
Waiting for the time to be right.

When I least expect it,
He taps me on the shoulder,
Slides his dagger between my ribs,
And whispers, “I’m still here,”
Each day becoming a little bolder.

I seek safety in a crowd,
But even there he’ll find a way
To remind me he is always near.
Watching my every move,
He keeps my inner peace at bay.

When I am alone,
Prepared to confront him
Face-to-face,
He remains hidden
Until I’m weary, then he strikes again.

He loves the darkness,
It gives him more places to hide
And he can move in closer,
Waiting patiently for just
The right moment
To slip his dagger into my side
And whisper again,
“I’m still here.”

Freedom is ignorance …

Freedom is ignorance
Love is pain
Knowledge enslaves
Unity enlightens
Contentment transcends
Astonishment transports
Nothing is aware.

As I lie with my head on my pillow …

As I lie with my head on my pillow
I spread my great wings and I soar.
I go where the winds of my Beloved
Are wont to carry my soul.

What ambition could ever be better
What goal could bring more delight
Than rising and moving and singing
and knowing it’s good and it’s right.

When you go to sleep at night …

When you go to sleep at night
Open your heart up to all that is right
Think of those things that will bring you delight

When you go to sleep at night
You’ll be receiving much more that you’re leaving
And you will find there’s a great peace of mind

When you go to sleep at night
Open your heart up to God and His Might
He will protect you all through the night

When you go to sleep at night
When you go to sleep at night

If my soul could speak …

POSTED IN contemporary poetry June 15, 2013

If my soul could speak, and you know it can,
Just as it can see and hear
It would tell of a wondrous world
That is near, so very near.

If it knew, and you know it does,
It would say what to do, just because
Of the love it bears
For me and you.

If it could hear, and I’ve said it could,
It would listen, then burn away pride
Draw its mighty sword and divide
Light from darkness, bad from good
And strive toward what it knew it should.

Until Nirvana’s gates stood wide
And it was asked to come inside
The world of oneness, to bow at the feet
Of Him whom it has come to meet.

With gratitude and grief for the past
Reaching that gushing font at last
Feel the wind through its hollow reed
Escaping both ambition and need.

Here is the shore of the ocean I named
It is just as close as before
But there is still a ladder to climb
Still another door.

Even poetry can’t describe
Those things that still lie hid
If my soul could go, and you know it did,
It would see these, too.

hear you my name
then you see me
See you name me
you don’t see me

In tree dancing
stick be holding
calling you out
setting you free

rising slowly
dropping quickly
cry your laughter
laughing your pain

Shun me, love you
Catch me, empty
Hold me, away
Follow me, not

Hopeless, answer
danger, safety
empty, blessing
nothing, reward

Turn-in side-out
poor you be rich
poor to riches
richly poor be

come on back child
New Tale to tell
laugh-up sitting
crying out loud

drum you with me
dance you with me
sing you with me
one beat we be

Nocturne/Nocturna

POSTED IN translated Finnish-Romanian June 13, 2013

Nocturne

Ruislinnun laulu korvissani,
tähkäpäiden päällä täysi kuu;
kesä-yön on onni omanani,
kaskisavuun laaksot verhouu.
En ma iloitse, en sure, huokaa;
mutta metsän tummuus mulle tuokaa,
puunto pilven, johon päivä hukkuu,
siinto vaaran tuulisen, mi nukkuu,
tuoksut vanamon ja varjot veen;
niistä sydämeni laulun teen.

Miksi metsän tummuus sävelehen?
Kosk’ on mustaa murhe ylpeäin.
Miksi juova päivän laskenehen?
Koska monta nuorta unta näin.
Miksi etäisien vuorten siinto?
Koska sinne oli silmäin kiinto.
Miksi vanamoiden valjut lemut?
Koska päättyneet on päivän kemut.
Mutta miksi varjot virran veen?
Kosk’ on mieli mulla siimekseen.

Sulle laulan neiti, kesäheinä,
sydämeni suuri hiljaisuus,
uskontoni, soipa säveleinä,
tammenlehvä-seppel vehryt, uus.
En ma enää aja virvatulta,
onpa kädessäni onnen kulta;
pienentyy mun’ ympär’ elon piiri;
aika seisoo, nukkuu tuuliviiri;
edessäni hämäräinen tie
tuntemattomahan tupaan vie.

Nocturna

Cantul lisitei imi staruie-n auz,
luna plina peste spice arde;
fericit, in noaptea verii m-am ascuns,
fumul, peste vai, usor s-abate.
Vesel nu-s, nici trist, nu suspin inca;
vreau doar a padurii noape-adanca;
nor in care ziua se afunda,
zvon de vant ce-n somn dealul mi-l zvanta,
gust de floare si umbra de apa;
toate-n cantec inima-mi adapa.

De ce cantul meu e neguros?
E regretul negru al mandriei.
De ce ziua-mi are doar apus?
A murit a visului faclie.
De ce vad doar muntii, vag, in zare?
Tinta ochilor e-n departare.
De ce florile-mi duhnesc palite?
Caci si zilele imi sunt ciuntite.
De ce apa raului e sumbra?
Fiindca-n mintea mea totul e umbra,

Domnisoara, te descant in fanul verii,
tu, tacere din inima mea,
cu credinta cant in faptul serii,
tu, cununa de stejar verde si grea.
Nu mai caut flacari iluzorii,
strang in pumni aurul fericirii;
cercul vietii-n juru-mi se stramteaza
timpul sta, doarme morisca treaza;
inaintemi un drum intunecat
spre-o necunoscuta casa m-a-ndrumat.

Hymni tulelle / Imn focului

POSTED IN translated Finnish-Romanian June 13, 2013

Hymni tulelle

Ken tulta on, se tulta palvelkoon.
Ken maata on, se maahan maatukoon.
Mut kuka tahtoo nousta taivahille
Näin kaikuu kannelniekan virsi sille:
Mit’ oomme me? Vain tuhkaa, tomua?
Ei aivan: Aatos nousee mullasta.
On kohtalosi kerran tuhkaks tulla,

Mut’ siihen ast’ on aika palaa sulla.
Mi palaa? Aine. Mikä polttaa sen?
Jumala, Henki, tuli ikuinen.
On ihmis-onni olla kivihiiltä,
Maan uumenissa unta pitkää piiltä,
Herätä hehkuun, työhön, taisteloon,
Kun luoja kutsuu, luottaa aurinkoon,
Toteuttaa vuosisatain unelmat,
Joit’ uinuneet on isät harmajat.

On elon aika lyhyt kullakin.
Siis palakaamme lieskoi leimuvin,
Tulessa kohotkaamme korkealle!
Maa maahan jää, mut Henki taivahalle.

Imn focului

Dumnezeu, Duhul, focul vesnic viu.
Omul-taciune, fericit, supus,
doarme-n adancuri somnul lung, ascuns,
se va trezi la lupta-ncrezatoare,
cand Creatorul cheama iar spre soare.
A secolelor vise sa ia viata,
asa cum tatii cei carunti ne-nvata.

Al vietii timp e masurat putin.
Deci, flacari vii, sa ardem spre declin,
Sa inaltam focul din noi stingher!
Trupu-i pamant, iar Spiritul e-n cer.

Nuori nainen/Tanara femeie

POSTED IN translated Finnish-Romanian June 13, 2013

Nuori nainen

Liukas niinkuin lumella suksi,
kova niinkuin kuolon uksi,
kitkerä niinkuin kiukaan lieska,
makea niinkuin maito ja rieska,
leikkivä niinkuin lehti haavan,
ankara niinkuin aalto aaavan,
synkkä niinkuin suossa vuori:
niin on lemmessä nainen nuori.

Tanara femeie

Lunecoasa precum schiul in miscare,
puternica precum ale mortii zavoare,
dureroasa precum al saunei foc,
dulce precum laptele si paine la un loc,
jucausa precum frunza plopului,
inasprita precum valul largului,
precum un munte mlastinos pecetluita:
Asa e tanara femeie-ndragostita.

Yli metsän koitti jo päivän koi/Cand peste padure

POSTED IN translated Finnish-Romanian June 13, 2013

Yli metsän koitti jo päivän koi

Yli metsän koitti jo päivän koi
Kun nurmella neitonen kulki
Kukat kukkivat auki jo umput loi,
jotk’ eilen illalla sulki.

Ja neitonen nuori se nurmella vain
niin hiljaa, hiljaa astui,
ja kukkaset nyökkäsi kuiskuttain,
kun kasteesta helmat kastui.

Cand peste padure

Cand peste padure rasarit-au zorii
pe iarba fecioara mergea
bobocii deja deschideau ochii florii
ce ieri seara inca dormea.

Si tanara fata pe iarba paseste
atat de incet, de suav, de tacut,
iar florile clatina capul cu soapte
cand poalele ude de roua-au trecut.
