Laugh, and the world laughs with you;
\nWeep, and you weep alone;
\nFor the sad old earth must borrow its mirth,
\nBut has trouble enough of its own.
\nSing, and the hills will answer;
\nSigh, it is lost on the air;
\nThe echoes bound to a joyful sound,
\nBut shrink from voicing care.<\/p>\n

Rejoice, and men will seek you;
\nGrieve, and they turn and go;
\nThey want full measure of all your pleasure,
\nBut they do not need your woe.

Razi, si lumea cu tine va rade ;
\nPlangi si singur vei plange;
\nCaci tristul pamant ras imprumutand,
\nNecazul si pe el il ajunge.
\nCanta, si colinele-or raspunde;
\nOfteaza si-i in aer pierdut;
\nEcouri raspund unui raset profund,
\nInsa la necaz au tacut.<\/p>\n

Fii vesel, si lumea te cata,
\nFii trist, ei se-ntorc si dispar ;
\nEi vor participa la fericirea ta,
\nInsa n-au treaba cu-al tau amar.
\nRazi, si prieteni sunt multi;
\nFii trist, si cu totii vor piere,-
\nNu-i unul sa refuze vinu-ti nectar pe buze,
\nInsa singur vei bea-a lumii fiere.
\nPetrece, si casa ti-e plina;
\nPosteste, si lumea-i trecuta.

\nInsa nimeni cand mori nu te-ajuta.
\nPentru-un tren larg si arogant,
