Sah ein Knab’ ein R\u00f6slein stehn,
\nR\u00f6slein auf der Heiden,
\nWar so jung und morgensch\u00f6n,
\nLief er schnell es nah zu sehn,
\nSah’s mit vielen Freuden.
\nR\u00f6slein, R\u00f6slein, R\u00f6slein rot,
\nR\u00f6slein auf der Heiden.<\/p>\n

Knabe sprach: “Ich breche dich,

Once a boy a frail rose saw

\nnear it he had to go
\ncharmed by her he kneeled,

\nFrail rose of the field.<\/p>\n

Then the boy: “I shall pick thee,
\nFrail rose of the field.”
\nThe frail rose: “I shall stick thee,
\nThat you’ll always think of me,
\nAnd, I’ll have a shield.”
