The Empty Room<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

I stood silently watching the room<\/p>\n

it was my last time there.<\/p>\n

My eyes in sadness mirrored the gloom<\/p>\n

that was too hard to bear.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

With heavy heart I swallowed my tears<\/p>\n

while I was held and kissed.<\/p>\n

I knew that after all those years<\/p>\n

I’ll miss and I’ll be missed.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

An empty room was quizzing me:<\/p>\n

“How much do you remember?”<\/p>\n

I saw myself through memory<\/p>\n

until this last November.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

How many children did I raise?<\/p>\n

How many minds I’ve lightened?<\/p>\n

I was a teacher all my days<\/p>\n

and I was never burdened.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

I loved them all in many ways,<\/p>\n

I taught them to be honest,<\/p>\n

to be themselves and run life’s maze,<\/p>\n

to be kind, good and modest.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

I taught them life in other land,<\/p>\n

and other country’s language,<\/p>\n

I gave them hidden in their hand<\/p>\n

the key to wisest courage.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

One day the Wind wrote me a leaf<\/p>\n

that told: “You know it’s time!”<\/p>\n

I took my books, I hid my grief,<\/p>\n

and followed the Wind chime.<\/p>\n
