And then the Romans came
With their towers and houses; and marble statues;\u200e
Things are no more the same,\u200e
With their strange, civilised Gods.\u200e<\/p>\n

Where are the Druids, now we have need?\u200e
Where are my people?\u200e
Is it silence, now?\u200e
Is it, indeed?\u200e<\/p>\n

Our forest is not strong anymore
Since the Romans brought their cities and culture.\u200e
Old trees have been felled;\u200e
The old spirit cannot capture
The old ways, anymore.\u200e<\/p>\n

They shouldn\u2019t have cut down the trees;\u200e
There was no need for that;\u200e
The Romans do as they please,\u200e
And there is nothing we can do about that.\u200e<\/p>\n

What do they want of our misty land
When they are cold here?\u200e
Why do they do this to us
When they feel unwelcome here?\u200e
Why have they left their sunny land
When they are not content here?\u200e
Where are my people?\u200e<\/p>\n

Times are changing all over the land;\u200e
Stonehenge has let fall some stones.\u200e
We fear an end is at hand,\u200e
The way our country groans.\u200e<\/p>\n

What are these Romans?\u200e
They are not like us;\u200e
They have slighted our land
Yet our Gods do not harm them.\u200e<\/p>\n

Only once have I seen such ill;\u200e
That was when Morrigan came;\u200e
She plagues my memories still.\u200e<\/p>\n

Old Greenwood waits and calls
As more harm is done,\u200e
And as more trees die, their falls
Rock the Greenwood.\u200e<\/p>\n

Few know the old ways now;\u200e
The hidden old straight track.\u200e
In Stonehenge\u2019s sacred enclave
I see children playing their games.\u200e<\/p>\n

These Romans no longer attack;\u200e
They go about their own business now
And call for us to slave,\u200e
And to stop our old ways;\u200e
Where are my people now?\u200e
Who are these Romans now?\u200e<\/p>\n

Maybe the land will welcome them;\u200e
Maybe she is not too hurt by them;\u200e
Maybe we can understand them;\u200e
Maybe we can yet tame them.\u200e<\/p>\n
