BINE SI RAU / GOOD AND BAD

Fara-ndoiala, multumescu-ti bine,
Cladiri de piscuri, cuiburi de izvoare,
Timpuri si valuri calatoare
Si oamenii în sarbatoare;

GOOD AND BAD

Between the sad hope and the untrue,
I’ve searched for you through the sidereal blue.
I’ve searched for you where and nowhere
Suspecting that you would be hiding there.
I’ve searched for you in your mystic miss
Through Testaments and through Apocalypse.
Could it be left some unbeaten lot
Where for you I was searching not?
While sure that I’ve found you at last,
A wall surrounding you were cast.
While feeling you pulsating in the roots
I also felt you in the corn and in the sprouts.
I sang to you on strings, untouched or crushed ,
And over lives, and over death dust.
But always you stayed away hushed.
Your hearing doesn’t want to sink in
The song of panpipes, lute and violin?
At last, one blessed twilight hue
I thought I’d have a glimpse of you
In a dusk’s golden cloak anew.
Catching it, dragged across the land
A fringe’d been left into my hand
And in my bosom, like a wanderer, I’d hid
A stolen thing.
Allow me, unperceived fairy,
To ask you now an old query.
For all the gentle beauties that you do
Without a doubt, so very well I thank you,
Mountains’peaks, springs’ nests to build
Traveling times and waves to shield
People at feasts on field;
Brave men, sweet girls with harp or the distaff to handle.
Moving their hand on strings, or the tow when it’s tangled.

But, you, the greatest kindler of star beads
How come you also did so many bad deeds?
