Mai…/ Never…

e ancora sulle mie cosce come colonne corinzie

scoppiano e mandano scintille
come i mortaretti delle feste.

Uno scultore cantò i mie piccoli seni
[piccoli limoni da succhiare]
prima con cocente cera fusa,
poi col piombo rovente dell’amore

provoca paura, incute timore.

No! Nessuno musico, nessun poeta
scrisse mai del mio nome
dalle dure consonanti
del dolore in esso nascosto;
nessuno ne ha mai scritto
nessuno mai ne scriverà.

Never…

No poem ever my name inspired
never a musician wrote symphonies for it,
neither Adagios, nor nocturnal, nor songs’ music,
to hum in the shower.

Of course, crazy poets have written
poems of my fierce Venus body
then of my unripe body of mature Aphrodite
and still of my thighs like Corinthian columns
join at the top with a basket of acanthus leaves.

Others wrote about the sweetness of my eyes
quiet dark lakes to get wet
when the languor invades,
or stormy, when at the height of anger
they burst and send sparks
like festive firecrackers.

A sculptor sang my small breasts
[small lemons to suck]
first with scorching melted wax,
then with the red-hot lead of love
finally he immortalized them in marble.

Yes! Many of me have been sung.
But never my name.
It inspires fear, it has no slippery sweetness
has hard consonants … deep roots,
and painful thorns in which he stumbles his tongue
causes fear, arouses fear.

No! No musician, no poet
never wrote of my name
from the hard consonants
of the pain hidden in it;
no one has ever written
no one will ever write about it.
