30 și ceva de ani / 30 or so years

ANDREEA APOSTU

……………………………

30 or so years

30 or so years
and insecure heels
over a city stung by fireworks
we had gathered to watch the end of a
century through turned lenses
and the images of those close to us had become
thin as a matchstick
they sizzled quickly and went out in their glasses
with champagne
all around me men held
old women and told them
not to be afraid
but the falling faces trembled, the wrinkles
deepened and seemed ready to enter
the grave
what nonsense fear when you are above a city
and you can see the way others walk without them knowing
their shouts and laughter of confused seagulls
making confetti their refuge

00:10 It’s a new time and I don’t feel anything different
I’m not afraid and no young man
whispers to me to have courage
legs are tense, yes, knees tired,
but I could wait here
